Creating an API key on Binance
Updated September 18, 2026
TrendX uses this key to place orders for you. If the permissions are wrong, your strategy will start but never place a single order.
Step 1: Open API Management
Sign in to the Binance website → profile icon, top right → API Management → create an API key, choosing the System generated type.
⚠️ If you plan to run futures strategies, open your Futures account first, then create this key. A key created before you had a Futures account can never have futures permission added to it later — you'd have to delete it and make a new one.
Step 2: Tick these permissions
| Permission (as Binance labels it) | What to do |
|---|---|
| Enable Reading | On by default. Leave it on |
| Enable Spot & Margin Trading | ✅ Turn it on — this is what places spot orders |
| Enable Futures | ✅ Turn it on (only needed if you'll run futures strategies) |
| Enable Withdrawals | 🔴 Leave it off |
| Permits Universal Transfer | Not needed |
Step 3: Fill in the IP whitelist (this one matters more on Binance than anywhere else)
Under IP access restrictions choose Restrict access to trusted IPs only and enter:
47.237.207.18🔴 Skipping this doesn't break things today — it breaks them out of nowhere, later. Binance's rule: on a key with no IP bound, the trading permission is switched off automatically after 90 days. On that day your strategy starts failing to place orders even though you changed nothing — which makes it very hard to guess the cause. With an IP on the key, the permission doesn't expire.
Step 4: Save your API Key and Secret
Binance then shows you an API Key and a Secret Key. The Secret is shown only once — copy it right away, then paste both into the TrendX binding screen.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Binding said success, but every order fails | Enable Spot & Margin Trading was never turned on. Binding only checks that we can read your account, so a read-only key binds successfully too |
| It worked fine for a couple of months, then orders started failing | No IP was set, so Binance switched trading off at the 90-day mark. Turn it back on — and this time fill in the IP |
| Spot works, futures strategies can't place orders | Enable Futures is off; if you can't turn it on at all, this key is older than your Futures account — delete it and create a new one |
| Binance says you must set an IP before enabling that permission | That rule is for the withdrawal permission. We don't need withdrawals — leave it off |
The safety line: never turn on Enable Withdrawals. Even if someone gets hold of your key,
without withdrawal permission they cannot move your money. Never send your Secret to anyone —
and we will never ask you for it.
